When the Quiet Small Voice Inside Started to YELL!

When the Quiet Small Voice Inside Started to YELL!

Laurie Cameron

We’ve all heard it, that still, small voice that is whispering to us. Although often ignored for years, it doesn’t give up! It is relentless. It is important. Listen!

Most of the women I talk to have heard it, and it starts the internal dialog with ourselves. Is this all there is? Am I happy now? What more could I be doing? What can I do that is different? Is this what I was put on the planet to do at this time in my life? Do I feel supported by the relationships in my life? Am I encouraged to grow and life my life to the fullest? Am I just being selfish spending so much mental energy on myself? Am I bone tired of putting up with some kind of abuse? Does my job fulfill me? Does my life matter? Am I contributing to others? Am I helping to make this world a better place?

These are just the sort of questions Laurie Cameron started asking herself. After her divorce she took action. She was smitten by the opening field of life coaching, and took the necessary classes to become a professional coach. She spent the next 10 years as a coach, including being a trainer for a coaching school for 6 of those years. She’s loved helping to open people up to the infinite possibilities in their lives.

Since she opened her own coaching practice in 1998, she found herself “thinking big but acting small.” She had wonderful, creative, great big ideas, but found that she was only taking very small steps toward realizing her goals. That all changed when she turned 50!

A conversation with a friend sparked and idea for an article that then developed into her first book which she wrote in a week, and self-published just nine months later entitled,  The Journey From Fear to Love: Waking Up and Walking the Evolutionary Relationship Path with Your Partner.. She had developed a greater awareness of and a commitment to helping women break the cycle of relationship illiteracy in all of the relationships in our lives.

“Women are keepers of relationships. If they are not healthy, we are not healthy, and our children are not healthy. We must model healthy relationships for our kids.”

As boomer women entered the workforce, often the female side of us needed to be subverted to make it in the business “mans” world. Now women are reintegrating their positive female energy into their work and lives. When chatting with one of her male friends she realized that women are “evolutionaries.” She realized that her coaching had become about “evolutionizing relationships,” taking them from where they were to the best they could be! This was an ah-ha moment for her.

She was raised, as so many of us were, that to ask for help was weak. She decided to take her own coaching advice. With her BIG plans she knew she would need help. She put together an advisory board, hired a virtual assistant, a bookkeeper, and a marketing pro. Acting small was no longer on her radar. Once she had made the commitment, she knew there was no going back.

She launched her non-profit “Fear to Love™” project and will soon be launching her new national tour, the “Celebrating the Woman’s Journey” Speakers Series, in which she plans to empower women throughout America and across the globe to travel the journey from fear to Love with integrity, purpose, joy, and grace.

She is also translating the relationship empowerment work she has done with adults to working with pre-teen and early teen girls. She is passionate about helping girls learn to value themselves and therefore develop healthy relationships from the get go!

Laurie has found her calling, her purpose. It’s BIG! Sure, she has moments of panic….every day. But, she will not allow any negative inner voice to squelch her spirit and halt her work. She has a very important job to do. She always asked herself “What’s next? What do I need to accomplish right now?”

When faced with big challenges, she recommends that other women:

  • Trust your inner voice.
  • Honor your fears and keep putting one foot in front of the other to move forward.
  • Make a commitment and choose to move closer to love (as opposed to closer to fear)…day-by-day, choice-by-choice.
  • When you wake up, consciously choose to think in a more loving way than you did the day before.
  • Move in the direction of more love. Be the passionate and compassionate human being that you are.
  • Relax and know you are moving in the right direction.

Laurie is jazzed every day. She says she doesn’t feel like she thought 52 would feel like based on past cultural norms. She is energized by the work she has chosen and we all have much to learn from her. Thank you Laurie for the Fabulous work you are doing!

Laurie’s work is such important work right now and I will look forward to reading her book and to seeing her talk. Her own ‘evolution’ is very impressive and is a guidepost for others.

Thank you for posting the info on Barbara Sher, Sharon! It was reading Wishcraft 11 or 12 years ago that started me on this coaching path. I will check out her site and see what she’s up to now.

And thank you for your continued support Chet. You are truly a precious gem in the world. I thank God for you every day.
