We’re Goin’ Places!

We’re Goin’ Places!

The introduction of our new Travel section is another dream come true for me.  The statistics show that we 50+ women have “travel” on our agendas. And, I’m excited that we now have a forum where we can not only get Expert information, but can share tips and support others with our creativity. I just read recently that a woman of limited means loved to travel. She got creative and now house sits all over the world! We can help each other come up with creative solutions, share our favorite places, those out of the way restaurants we’ve discovered, the best places to find culinary treasures, a Provencal tablecloth, or perhaps a bookstore filled with treasures in London.

One of the industries that “gets” us is the travel industry offering girlfriend getaways, trips with our families, and it’s getting easier and easier for women to travel alone or in groups. We are packing our bags and we are goin’ places! Sometimes our significant others/life partners don’t share the dream of a trek through Peru, or studying the birds of Equador, or tippling through wine country. So, no…we don’t stay home…we get creative!

50+ Fabulous women are traveling…now! With the kids off to college, off with their own jobs and families, we’re not Empty Nesters, we’re Happy Travelers!

And with the internet, many of us can work from any geographic location. Why I might, in fact, be penning this from one of California’s beautiful wineries! Who’s to know?

All of the experts this month have shared their best travel tips and more!

I’m thrilled to introduce all of you to Susan Hutson of http://www.HutsonTravel.com. She has traveled extensively, for both business and pleasure, in North America, Europe and Asia, including living in Taiwan for six months. Why she even became engaged at the Eiffel Tower!! In addition to trips afar, Susan finds adventure close by. Whether it is scouting out a new restaurant in Carmel, visiting friends in California’s wine country, or sprinting off to San Francisco’s Ferry Building, Susan takes her joie de vivre, spirit of adventure, and curiosity right along with her.

If you have travel questions, she has the answers.

Let us know your favorite destination, tips, favorite hotels, restaurants, send us a photo of yourself on one of your trips, or share some of your most embarrassing travel moments…just for fun! And, as always make sure we are sharing what you’d like to see by letting us know. Don’t forget to take our poll and tell us where you are planning to go. And, one of our Fabulous prizes this month is Dr. Jo’s Dining Lean: how to eat healthy when you’re not at home! Don’t forget to register to win.

When I was 49 my first grandchild was born. I was fortunate enough to be in the delivery room with my daughter and her husband. It’s so amazing to be a part of the birth process and watch your own grandchild emerge from the womb of your daughter. The birth totally blew my mind and changed me forever! At 51 I earned my Bachelor Degree from Indiana University in Women’s Studies which shocked me as to the reality of unfair treatment towards woman globally, not to mention in our own country. Earning my degree included my involvement in social activism by performing in Eve Ensler’s production of “The Vagina Monologues” for two years in a row. Our activism and donation helped local women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The whole experience once again transformed me. Such camaraderie between women of all ages. At present, age 52, I am attempting to get my own business up and running, offering women’s retreats in southwest Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan. Offering weekend getaway’s for women that include yoga & meditation, one hour massages, art instruction by local artists, presentations by women speakers, and of course yummy food with lots of calories (you only live once!)My intention is to remind women to pamper themselves. It’s OK really! Have fun and take time to explore what your inner voice is saying to you. Take time to count your blessings, your family, your health, great friends, etc. So many of us are just so busy. I am also fortunate to be celebrating my new (second) grandson who is already 6 months old! In a more spiritual sense, I have recently allowed the “artist” in me to emerge and even though we now have an empty-nest, I am having a blast. Turning 50 was truly the best thing that has ever happened to me!

Thank you Jody. You are truly an inspiration.

Your insights on becoming a grandparent is especially timely since I’ll be having my first “grand” any day now and anticipate it with great excitement.

Keep up your great work!
