Off to San Francisco, to Michele’s Union Square studio. It’s pretty bad when you don’t even have anything to wear to go shopping in the city. So, you guessed it, I wore the winter uniform…turtle neck, jeans, and old nasty literally coming apart at the seams boots! First stop, shoes!
We’d already discussed the goals of the day…booties (short boots), clogs, jeans, sweaters, coat and some fun jewelry. I know it doesn’t sound like much of a new look, but believe me IT WAS!
Based on my desire to keep the budget “real,” Michele selected several stores that fit the bill, so to speak. I was willing to pay more for shoes, so our first stop was Cole Haan, where the much maligned worn out booties and clogs were replaced with stylish new ones. I left the bags there and off we went to H&M. I had gone to H&M in the past and had not been impressed. Michele started to scan, I tried things on over what I was wearing. And, it occurred to me that one of the most fantastic things about shopping with a pro is that you know she will not allow you to purchase anything that doesn’t look fabulous on you. And, you do not have to have that ongoing debate with yourself whether this or that looks better! I loved it. Just a gentle shake of the head and within literally 15 minutes, we’d found a great 3/4 length sweater coat and a swing jacket for under $150!
Trips to Zara, Banana Republic (who knew that after a lifetime of saying “no” to wool, I could wear it!), Max Mara because I was willing to pay a little more for slacks. Michele is a big believer in purchasing “on sale.” But, even on sale, Max Mara was more dear than I was comfortable with while carrying an extra 15 pounds. After lunch, we were off to Macy’s where Michele quickly chose lots of chunky, costume jewelry and gave me a lesson too. (check out Michele’s column on jewelry!) I’ve found that I’m good for about three hours of shopping. How about you?
