I would like to see more articles on how to continue to add value to a company after the age of 50. It would also be useful to share ideas on overcoming stereotypes that we are ‘washed up’ after 50 and should be thinking about our retirement instead of the next promotion. I deal with this attitude from colleagues on a daily basis.  The struggle up the corporate ladder is difficult enough when you’re a woman but being a woman, over 50, makes it almost impossible.  It would even be great to hear from ladies who have changed careers in their 50’s.

There are so many great articles by women who are entrepreneurs but I’d also like to hear more from ladies who are in the mainstream business world.

Thanks!

Check out the 50+Fabulous POrofiles on the site. They highlight women who have fought the stereotypes and won. Many have made successful transitions that are inspiring others to do the same.

I’m 53 and an entrepreneur. I started my business a year ago, but I’m struggling right now and sometimes feel a need to speak to women my age who may be facing the same type of challenges.

Hi BlackDiamond!  I’d be happy to talk with you about your new venture.  I’m realizing that I need to step out of the world of big business and start doing somwthing that is more for me.  I worked my backside off for years because I needed to support and educate my children.  I was a single mother and the sole source of income for myself and my three kids.  Now, my kids are all self-sufficient and have kids of their own.  I keep asking myself why I’m still working 14 hour days and giving myself ulcers.  I know I have marketable skills but, for some reason, fear keeps me attached to my company.

I have seen so many of my friends and colleagues leave the business world and become successful but something holds me back.  I’ve always been able to give them good advice but never took that advise myself.

If you would like to start a dialogue, I’m happy to correspond through email and share some ideas.

All the best to you,  Barbara
