How many times have you said to yourself “I would exercise, but….”?
Are any of the excuses below stopping you from attaining a healthy lifestyle?
But I Hate To Exercise!
Think about the benefits not the difficulties. Regular physical exercise combats chronic diseases, strengthens your heart and lungs, helps you manage your weight, improves your mood and promotes better sleep. Do something you enjoy: try biking, walking, swimming, baby boomer and senior group exercise and dance classes.
But I Don’t Have Time!
Start small. You don’t have to exercise for hours everyday to reap health benefits. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or the escalator; park your car as far away from your office or the store; go out for a walk or join an exercise class during your lunch hour. Incorporate your exercise routine into your life so that it becomes a habit. Do you have time to be sick because you did not take care of yourself physically?
But I Am Not Motivated!
Even the most motivated baby boomer can feel unmotivated at times. Motivation can come and go, but remember that when it does go away it is not permanent. So set a goal to get fit for that vacation, reunion or special event with your kids or grandkids. Think about what you want your body to do for you as you age.
But I Am Too Tired!
Anything that increases your circulation makes you feel more energetic. Aerobic exercise can melt tiredness quickly and strength training can energize you later. Even doing moderate workouts gives your body and mind a boost. Have fun! Whatever gets you to move is the exercise that will energize you.
So if you want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer, get off your buts and get off your butts!
