Most of us have at least one dream vacation we are excited about. Some have already gone on several dream trips and are planning their next one while others keep putting their dreams off to tomorrow. As 50+ women, it is time to book our dream vacations now and then plan the next one. What are we waiting for?!
I have been fortunate to have already been on some dream vacations, including turning 40 and getting engaged at the Eiffel Tower and turning 50 in Prague in my mother’s homeland. My next dream vacation will be to go with my husband to Australia to celebrate a very important birthday for him – and, yes, the plans are already underway!
Certainly dream vacations don’t have to revolve around birthdays – that’s just something that has been a way for me to celebrate 30, 40 and 50 so that they are happy occasions rather than ones to lament the passing of time.
Carol’s dream vacation is Retirement! But, more realistically it is three or more weeks of diving someplace lush. Betsy’s dream destination is Paris, where she has already been several times. And, Janie’s dream is to go to Italy and France to really experience the people and "everydayness" there now that she has overcome her fear of flying.
Amanda, an inveterate traveler, has already been lucky enough to have taken a number of dream vacations already. Among them were trips to Bali, the Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu, Guatemala, Costa Rica and the U.K. – including England, Scotland and Wales. Her goal on these journeys is more to slip into the mode of "traveler" than to see trips as vacations. Amanda’s future dream trips that she is looking forward to are Thailand/Vietnam/Lao/Cambodia/Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka (when it’s politically safe to go there), Turkey, Morocco/Portugal/Spain (especially Barcelona), Bhutan, Japan, and China. And if price were no object, her dream vacation would be to fly first-class (and relatively directly) to some exotic beach area in Southern Thailand, Bali or the South Pacific, where there’s great swimming and snorkeling, great land-based places to explore, and great food, and just hang out for about a month. Sounds good to me!
