The dead of winter is behind us. The landscape is budding with daffodils and tulips. Hills are colored bright, Ireland green! My spirit is celebrating!
Qualities of Hope, Growth and Renewal are the essence of this season and just as I clean out all my drawers and closets this time of year, I do the same with the rooms in my own financial house. Cleaning, examining and purging will create space to bring in the new! I want to share my financial spring cleaning rituals with you!
Clean Out the Cobwebs of Your Money Mindset
How about taking a good broom to clean out the cobwebs of any limiting money mindsets you might have. These are the mindsets that keep you small in the world. Examine each area of your money life; earning, saving, spending and giving. Which areas of your neural network need cleansing?
In February I joined a 12-month, online business mastermind. It is stretching me in new ways and it is great! I have realized that one way I limit myself is the fact that I don’t market myself well. When I dug into the root of this behavior, I realized I have some old tapes running. One tape is: “Don’t tell people about yourself, it’s bragging.” Another is, “It’s not good to invite attention.” Needless to say, these old childhood thought patterns are worn out and in need of a good garbage can! I love breaking up my current thinking to embrace ways to be larger in the world! One action step I took to help break through my old, limiting mindset was to place a video of myself, describing my services, on You Tube! Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNXRMJHLPz8
What mindsets are you willing to let go so that you can fully step into your financial power?
Create Space for a Bold Goal
Have the chutzpah to stretch to a BIG goal this year, regardless of the economy. Keep focused. You may not know how you are going to get from Point A to Point B, and that’s OK. Your job is to stay conscious, be mindful of synchronicities and take action. Write your goal in ink. I’m not sure what happens on a neural or metaphysical level when we write down our intentions, although I have experienced the magic of it.
I established some big, income goals this year. I have no idea how I’m going to meet them, yet I envision doing so. I’m doing all the footwork I can to move toward those goals. This includes creating some user friendly cash flow products and educational videos.
What are your bold goals? How are your goals stretching you?
Re-arrange Your Portfolio
Re-arranging is an art. Just as you move the furniture around in your home to create a new fresh look, you can do the same with your financial portfolio. One reason you might want to re-balance your portfolio is to ensure the proper mix of stocks, bonds and cash to keep you on plan to reach your financial goals.
Since I am not an investment expert, I have one that helps me. Recently I met with him to re-balance my portfolio. During our meeting, I asked a lot of questions to better understand the investment choices he recommended and my portfolio allocations. For me, this is a silver lining of the current economy. In the past, I displayed some avoidance behavior in this area.
Touch Every Financial Paper You Have
Each Spring, it’s a great idea to review every financial paper in your file. File it or shred it. I consider myself a Master Shredder! Shredding energizes me! It makes me feel like I’ve taken Clorox and a scrub brush to my files.
I go through each insurance policy, tax return and its supporting documentation, and only keep what is necessary. I keep records according to the time limit guidelines set by my accountant.
Right now, I’m in the process of working with our insurance broker to make sure we have the best coverage for the best pricing that covers all our needs. Every year, we review my policies line-by-line. It feels good to know exactly what our premiums cover. Life changes from year-to-year and an annual review is a good way to both keep current and make sure that your assets are sufficiently protected.
